ISPO Pakistan Marks the International Day of Persons with Disability 2014

Published: Thursday, 05 February 2015

ISPO Pakistan is pleased to see increased interest in ensuring dignity, supporting rights and caring for the well- being of persons with disabilities in Pakistan each year.

In Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), ISPO Pakistan and partners (Our Voice, CBID Network, AJK-APD and the Prime College of Sciences and Commerce) organized a walk that counted 150 participants, including persons with disabilities (PWDs) and students. Pakistani media covered the event, which called for the ratification and implementation of the United Nations Convention of Rights for Persons with disability (UNCRPD).

Together with the (ISPO-recognized training institution) Pakistani Institute of Prosthetic and Orthotic Sciences (PIPOS), the International committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Pakistan Society for Red Crescent (PRCS), ISPO Pakistan received children with disabilities for a colourful event in the PIPOS premises in Peshawar. Participants could take part in various games (Golf, Basketball, Cricket, Table Tennis, Darts, Loophole, Face Painting, Hand Prints, Musical Chair, etc.) and a wheelchair race was organized.

An awareness walk took place towards the end of the event, in a moving demonstration of courage from those with disabilities walking hand in hand with others. The local and regional media covered the event and prizes were distributed to participants during a closing ceremony.

Finally, in Quetta, ISPO Pakistan organized an awareness-raising walk in partnership with the Christian Hospital Quetta and the Community Development & Rehabilitation Foundation (CDRF) to increase awareness on the benefits of integrating persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
